Bristol Cocktail Weekend is brought to you by Living For The Weekend. We specialise in developing and delivering special events that champion hospitality and celebrate culture.
We work to connect people with places, brands and simple pleasures – in this case, sipping a delicious cocktail in the fantastic city of Bristol.
Development for this year’s festival is well underway and whilst we’re hard at work creating a fantastic festival for you to experience this Autumn, we thought we’d introduce you to the people behind Bristol Cocktail Weekend 2023.
Living For The Weekend was founded by Alex Nicholson-Evans nine years ago and has been delivering drink and dining events ever since. Bristol Cocktail Weekend will be part of an expanding family of festivals including Birmingham Cocktail Weekend and Birmingham Restaurant Festival.
Alex is no stranger to the South West, she went to university down the road in Bath but she’s really excited to be working alongside two expert local partners to deliver a true celebration of Bristol’s phenomenal bar scene. When she’s not working on Living For The Weekend festivals, Alex is part of the judging academy for the UK Top 50 Cocktail Bar List, is a Food & Drink Editor for apartment hotel group Staying Cool and also supports hospitality & cultural venues with commercial development as a consultant.
One of the local partners working with Living For The Weekend to bring Bristol Cocktail Weekend to life is Ben Alcock. Ben is the owner of not one but two Bristol cocktail bars; Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Filthy XII. Ben has been working in cocktail bars since he was 18 and has numerous accolades to his name, not least being a Finalist for GQ Bartender of the Year in 2022.
It was actually an early iteration of a different Bristol cocktail festival that brought Ben to the city for the very first time and he loved it so much he got involved and took a lead on developing that event in the years before the pandemic. Now he’s excited to bring his passion for the city’s cocktail scene and extensive experience in the industry to Bristol Cocktail Weekend 2023!
The second local partner is Akos Rabi. Akos has been living in Bristol for over 12 years now, and like Ben, has worked in hospitality from an early age. His career journey has taken him all over the world! He started out in Hungary, studied in Switzerland (where he gained a degree in Hotel & Hospitality Management) and has since worked across Europe and the USA. He’s had a whole host of roles in a wide variety of venues, from 5 star hotels to local venues The Milk Thistle and Hyde & Co.
It was always a dream of his to open his own venue and in 2018 Loose Cannon was born. Akos is a passionate supporter of local independent businesses and got involved in Bristol Cocktail Weekend because he wants the city’s bar scene to thrive.
So that’s us, the trio behind Bristol Cocktail Weekend. We’re thrilled to be working with Bristol City Centre BID on the development of the festival.
Bristol City Centre BID is a business-led partnership of over 700 businesses, working to make Bristol an even better place for those who work, live and spend leisure time here.
They are supporting Bristol Cocktail Weekend to celebrate local hospitality and culture, the art of cocktail making – and the good times that are synonymous with the city of Bristol and its thriving night-time economy!
We can’t wait to share more information with you soon.
